According to every forecasts our cities are getting bigger and bigger, the population of urban areas is constantly increasing. It means: we need to focus on cities, when we plan the interventions of crime prevention. For several decades the prophylaxis has focused on techniques of social prevention, which were aimed to change the behaviour and attitude of people. We have forgotten the physical environment, which is surrounding us. But crime can always be interpreted in relation to a specific area, to a living space, so the built environment of the urban spaces has an emphasized importance in dealing with crime. Because of the above, CPTED (crime prevention through environmental design) is going to be appreciated, which has changed in the last 20 years. CPTED is not only situational crime prevention method any more, but it is social too, because we change not only the environment, but we also try to change the behaviour and attitude of people. Of course, if we want to be successful, we have to measure the secure of an area. The question is: how can we do that? This book tries to give an answer... |
