Sumario:The BBC series THE ART OF AMERICA is a publication in the series Travel through Art History. In this three-part BBC series is art expert Andrew Graham-Dixon looking for the story behind the American art. The series begins with the early Puritan majestic landscapes painted in the 19th century - one of the paradoxes in American history: an ideology based on God and nature, but a reality steeped in blood and destruction. Then Graham-Dixon focuses on the rise of mechanization, modernism and abstract expressionism; undoubtedly the first unique and authentic 'American' art. In the last episode Graham-Dixon looks at the era of capitalism and further including the pop art of the 60s, a return to pantheism and a second paradox in modern American culture, "dirty" money versus' clean 'art. Andrew Graham-Dixon (1960) is one of the leading art experts in the world. For the BBC, he presented a large number of TV series about art and he has published more than 20 years a weekly column on art, first in The Independent and now in The Sunday Telegraph. Graham-Dixon is the author of a number of (winning) books on topics such as medieval painting and sculpture, the Renaissance to the art of today.
