Through introducing human-elephant culture, elephant civilization, true stories of mahouts, as well as the human-elephant conflicts happened in Thailand, Sumatra, China’s Yunnan Province, etc., the film comprehensively reveals ongoing challenges for Asian Elephant and exposes the relationships between humans, elephants, and forests; moreover, it discovers the balance between humans, animals, and nature. Elephanting is directed and produced by Xiao Wei, who is the lead vocalist of band The Catcher in the Rye. As a senior volunteer at Greenpeace, Xiao Wei headed to Thailand for the CHANG[E] caravan in 2009. Such an experience of living together with Asian elephants night and day for a month brought him enthusiasm and emotion for elephants. After ten months of filming, editing, and post-producing, Elephanting is born. It is the first documentary, in the genre of animals and nature, directed by a musician, featuring Xiao Wei’s music and his choice of Rock music that accounts for the bulk of the soundtrack, along with exotic melodic music, both of which catch the spotlight
