Sumario: | The Arsacid king Mithridates II invaded Armenia in the late second century BCE. According to the common reading of our principal source, Justin 42.2.6, the Armenian king was Artawazd I. However, recently reassessed numismatic evidence, certain tablets from the Babylonian Astronomical Diaries, and a new reading of Justin strongly favor a new interpretation: the invasion took place in 111/110 BCE and the Armenian king should be identified as Tigran I. |
