Sumario:In order to respond to the question marks over the extent to which the Mosaic traditions reflect the historical reality and the distance that separates the Moses of history from the Moses of faith, the author first studies from a sociohistorical perspective the problems of the origins of Israel and Yahwism. These in turn raise the questions of the composition of the Pentateuch and of Moses as the founder of Israel. Then he analyses the figure and work of Moses from a theological and canonical point of view. He shows how the last editors of the Pentateuch, in order to legitimize certain laws and institutions, made of Moses an ideal model. One can see how on the basis of a historical outline the canonical figure of Moses took shape.
