Sumario:Organized crime is increasingly pervasive in Italy’s agricultural sector; the so-called «agromafia» – a neologism coined in 2011 – affects the entire agricultural industry in certain parts of Italy. From the Fifth Report of the Permanent Observatory on Agromafia criminal organizations, prepared by Coldiretti and Eurispes, what emerges are their efforts to combat these activies: from the exploitation of cheap labor to the counterfeiting of made in Italy products, from gangmaster and labor abuses to the management of entire supermarkets. A valid support to combat agromafia organizations remains education in schools and of consumers who have the power to reward the legally grown produce and the honesty of the producer and the seller. Also, the government’s investment in young farmers and additional checking activities indicates that the battle can still be won.
