Sumario:After Natalie starts the session by taking a sip of beer, the provider promptly informs her that she cannot drink beer during their session. The provider explains the importance of making their telehealth sessions as conducive to an in-person session as possible, including refraining from using any substances before and during sessions. Natalie is asked a series of questions to gather more information about her alcohol use, including how frequently she drinks, how much (i.e., type of alcohol, amount) she drinks, tolerance, general drinking habits (e.g., the time of day she typically starts drinking), and withdrawal symptoms. Natalie shows signs of frustration and reports concerns that the provider is judging her. The provider transparently discusses her concerns regarding Natalie’s substance use and the possibility of the recommendation of a medical detox in the future if it is warranted.
