Sumario: | The manufacture of wool, together with large trade and international finance, was one of the leading sectors of late medieval Florence. The sixteenth century was only touched upon by historical-economic studies, especially regarding the organization of production or work, perhaps because it was traditionally considered the century of decadence. More recent research has instead highlighted the need to rethink these conclusions, demonstrating how the textile sector represents a good point of observation for deepening the critical issues and assessing the prospects of the economy of the city of Giglio in the sixteenth century. |
