| Sumario: | The essays collected in this volume apply an interdisciplinary approach to explore aspects of the relationship between animal and human in late antiquity. With a focus on ways that anthropozoological connections were defined in the emergent Christian religious discourse of the epoch, the authors contribute to our understanding of a thematic area largely neglected in previous research. Zu den Forschungstrends der jüngeren Vergangenheit zählt ohne Zweifel die kulturwissenschaftliche Untersuchung von Tier-Mensch-Beziehungen, doch werden Ansätze aus den Human-Animal Studies (HAS) in den Altertumswissenschaften - und hier insbesondere für den Bereich der sogenannten "Spätantike" - vergleichsweise selten fruchtbar gemacht. Aus philologisch-historischer Perspektive helfen die Beiträge des vorliegenden Bandes dabei, diese zu diagnostizierende Unausgewogenheit der chronologischen Fokussierung zu überwinden. Von den ersten Jahrhunderten bis zur Schwelle des Mittelalters bietet der Band Einblicke in das komplexe Verhältnis von Tier und Mensch und geht dabei der facettenreichen Frage nach, wo und auf welche Weise anthropozoologische Aspekte in der zunehmend christlich werdenden spätantiken Welt zum Gegenstand der Reflexion werden konnten. |
