It adopts a cookbook format that provides a concise, repeatable set of procedures for installing and configuring z/VM 6.3 into a single system image (SSI), then installing and customizing Linux. You need at least two IBM System z logical partitions (LPARs) with associated resources, z/VM 6.3 media, and either the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) version 6.4 or the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) version 11 SP3 distribution (or both). This book assumes that you have a general familiarity with System z technology and terminology. It does not assume an in-depth understanding of z/VM and Linux. It is written for those who want to get a quick start with z/VM and Linux on the mainframe, and to get some virtual servers up and running in a short amount of time (days, not weeks or months). |
