Sumario:The collection of texts in this book analyses the challenges and possibilities of an education that transcends the walls of the classroom and opens up to the languages ​​and practices of the world. In the new scenario that is being outlined for 21st century education, the context of language teaching and learning has already shown the effects of the "Media Age" in which we live, also signalling the important role that the new technological tools have been playing in the definition of new postures and pedagogical modalities. Such aspects are discussed by researchers from renowned national and international higher education institutions, who propose three central axes for reflection: language, education and virtuality. Based on their didactic experiences and theoretical reflections, the authors put on the agenda subjects of relevance to the understanding of new demands that directly reflect in areas such as initial and continuing teacher training, teaching work in the classroom and in the virtual classroom, design teaching materials and the way in which new media and practices affect the functioning of language and the emergence of new discursive genres.
