Sumario:Educated in the tensions between reason and religion well into the nineteenth century, Pedro Gómez de la Serna Tully (1806-1871) was a Spanish jurist with Catholic virtues, a progressive-conservative politician who questioned codification, without ceasing to be a notable agent of the new constitutional virtues. A cautious but intense personality, immersed in a world of fleeting authoritarianisms that manage the decadence and overcoming of old worldviews, "a political labyrinth, increasingly intricate, that put everyone and everything into question", a world populated by inertias and social fatigue that, as Isabel Burdiel recalls, the French newspapers, on the death of Elizabeth II in 1904, describing her days as Queen, pointed out as a time marked by “religious intransigence, the lack of education of a brutalized people, the ambition of its generals and its politicians, Spanish cainism, pronouncements, barracks and revolutions ”, a world –let us add– in which the need for a new economy produces malleable fractures on temporal interests and spiritual beliefs, expressed in a fragility and intellectual and political uncertainty detached from a jurisdictional time that wants to survive against rationalism, and that the recognized juris It reflects.
