Sumario: | A young woman who retreats from relationships with men is treated with positive psychotherapy. The therapy focuses on learning to focus on positive thinking rather than the many negative, unkind-toward-self thoughts the patient has a habit of thinking. The therapist and patient review homework assignments about positive thinking, including writing about her thinking in her journal and how she is able to catch negative thoughts and come up with more positive thoughts. They examine activities she has learned to do, leading her into meditative states that are helpful for her thinking. They also examine how other people react to the patient when she thinks positively and allows positive thinking to change her behaviors. They examine how negative thoughts toward herself calm her, and the new ways of positive thinking are making her anxious, due to the familiarity and draw to past ways of negative thinking. The patient talks about how she has always had guilt when being nice to men and especially if the men are nice in return. The patient develops insight about how she no longer has to allow “guilt” to dominate just because guilt was her familiar childhood friend.
