Sumario:A powerful short documentary exploring Overtourism, featuring interviews with local residents and global experts
Video documentary produced by activist travel company Responsible Travel is highlighting the issue of overtourism as the peak holiday season in the northern hemisphere gets underway. 'Crowded Out: The Story of Overtourism' was released on 3 July, warning that the issue is reaching a critical point. The film describes the exponential rise of tourism, and how what is seen by most travellers as a pastime is actually one of the world's largest industries, with huge environmental and social impacts in a growing number of overcrowded destinations. The documentary highlights the impact on holiday destinations that are overrun by tourists from the perspective of local people in hotspots such as Venice and Barcelona as well as further afield in places such as the Gili Islands. The commentary points out that what is a holiday destination for the visitor is a home for other people, and that the quality of life for many residents is becoming severely harmed as a result of the rising tide of visitors"
